An article in Washington’s Olympian today observed a small milestone in the alt fuel revolution – thanks to soaring gas prices, pumps in the Puget Sound area had biodiesel selling cheaper than regular diesel fuel.
Any diesel car can run on biodiesel. As interest grows, pumps that sell it are popping up around the country. Daryl Hannah drives a badass black biodiesel car and Willie Nelson has toured the country stumping for it. Ever since his wife turned him on to the potential of it while they were car shopping, Willie has become a poster child for biodiesel (because, after all, who doesn’t want to be Willie Nelson?) It’s a valuable service, since public awareness and demand is what biodiesel needs to become a serious competitor to the fossil fuel monolith. Right now, $1 per gallon government subsidies are helping make it affordable (just as they prop up petroleum in other ways,) but with prices for gas still climbing, biodiesel may become the fuel of tomorrow. For Willie, that achievement may even outshine his fine performance in Half Baked.

Corn biodiesel is exactly what the planet needs with the warming trend and pollution caused by fossil fuels.
