Petition Parade – Robert Redford In A Movie, Musicians At Venice Beach, Victoria’s Secret Sends Too Many Catalogs, And Other Amazing Surprises

We’ve got a couple calls to action from the NRDC and ForestEthics. But if you want to do more than just send an email, this Sunday Los Angeleans can choose between multiple activist field trips, so pack your Lorax lunchbox:
· At 11 AM on Sunday, August 27th, In Defense of Animals will be hosting a demonstration against the horrific slaughter of 54,000 dogs in China this month, at the Gateway to Chinatown, 600 North Broadway (at Cesar Chavez.) The protest will also “educate the public about the horrific companion animal fur trade” and call for a boycott on all products that are Made in China (in other words, everything.)
· Meanwhile, if you like your activism with a delirious amount of luxurious incentives, join Heal The Bay in a Venice Beach cleanup complete with “free massages, cooling misters, helpful tips to relieve stress, great prizes” and a performance by Jurassic 5 and Jonny Lang. And with this “free massage,” it's the ocean that will have a happy ending! That was terrible. I apologize.
· But if you’re not in Los Angeles (which is something like 95% of my readers,) then you can still help save the world. You can watch a video with Robert Redford. Not Indecent Proposal. That won’t help save anybody. But his latest role is standing in front of a tree and talking about the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. Sure, it’s not that challenging a part, and I thought the snowy owl at the beginning stole the movie, but it’s only five minutes long. Check it out.
· And finally, if you’ve ever bought a pair of underwear from Victoria’s Secret for yourself, or your girlfriend, or your boyfriend, or someone you’re stalking, then you know the deep, murky swamp that is the Victoria’s Secret mailing list. Twenty-four full-color non-recycled catalogs a week, cramming up your mailbox, all with the exact same underwear-clad beauties and big sales arranged in a slightly different layout. ForestEthics and Native Forest Network are calling out Victoria’s Secret for their lack of regard for the trees of the world.
