Julia Roberts put on nerdy glasses for an important cause yesterday – California’s Prop 87. Prop 87 is a proposal to tax oil companies and use the money to fund alternative fuel research, projects and education. In other words, let the oil companies put in their share to save the environment. Julia spoke at Mattell Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles to support the prop. It’s the same one Al Gore has done TV spots defending. So, why have these pillars of the media elite taken time out of their busy schedule of champagne baths and ski retreats to campaign for a little state proposition?
Because you can barely turn on the TV without seeing the vociferous opposition telling us that Prop 87 will tax us into oblivion, make all our cars stop running, turn our economy in a rotted skeleton picked apart by endangered condors, spurn a return of the Ice Age and force Californians to huddle in remote cave dwellings scribbling on the walls with bone of how our glorious civilization crumbled.
And then you get to the end of ad, and your eyes do the little zoom thingy on the fine print at the bottom of the screen:

That’s right – it actually says “Chevron Corporation.” Thanks, guys! You’ve always looked out for me in the past! Thanks for setting me right on this!

Wowza. The Ba$tards.
Whats funny, is we have the same situation you have the in the US right now. A fractured right wond government on its last legs, low in the polls, propped up by oil rich pricks who care diddly squat about the world.
