This Saturday evening, MoveOn and Al Gore have organized “House Parties” across the nation to screen Al’s heart-and-global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. There will be a conference call with Al himself, and he’ll answer questions live online. With the holiday party season beginning, and families spending their free time getting blisters on their feet at the local mall, it may be an inconvenient time to be thinking about such matters. But with the steeply increased air travel, mass slaughtering of holiday turkeys, and epidemic purchasing of plastic, semi-disposable crap made by thirteen-year-old Bangladeshi factory workers, the holidays may be the best time of the year to think about our straining impact on the planet.
Perhaps they could have increased the incentive for party hosts by awarding a special prize to the most “inconvenient” party. People could give bad directions, hold their party in the middle of the street at a busy intersection, or cram fifty people into their front foyer because “the floors are being done.” I could win the award here in LA simply by living in Reseda. Just a suggestion, Al – think on it.
